Default Hope NC Transplant :)

Hello all, my fiance and I (she is on this forum as well) are planning a move to the area this summer, most likely Cary. She is applying for teaching positions and we hope to hear something soon.

I am a GIS Analyst and am also applying at various companies in the area.

I just have a couple quick questions about the area. What is the topography like? Flat, hills etc? I am into motorcycling and just wondering if there are good roads in the area.

About how long of a drive is it to the coast? Smokies? Are there State/National parks in the area, my fiance and I both enjoy mountain biking, hiking and being outdoors.

Any other information on the area would be great.

Flat & hills, believe me, you will come across both! There are quite a few motorcycle groups in the area, maybe you should look into joining one. Great group from what I heard. Bob from G105 (radio) talks alot about one of them.

Drive to the coast is a straight shot on 1-40, about two hours.

The mountains is about 4 hours away, maybe more...dang, its been awhile since I've been, lol. Lots of great tourist attractions out there.

Umstead Park in Raleigh is great for the outdoors. Lots of biking, hiking, canoes, etc.

When I travel East of the Triangle on Highway 64 I often see motorcyclists. I cannot say where exactly they are heading but that route crosses Jordan Lake Recreation Area, Pittsboro (sweet little town) and Asheboro (with the North Carolina Zoological Park). Just below Asheboro you find Seagrove (pottery-producing town) and the Uwharrie National Forest. I think you might enjoy these places.

In the Triangle itself Umstead State Park is a great retreat. I also like Falls Lake and Eno River State Parks.
