Ye of the Logan's Run school of architecture.
It boggles the mind that you think some of that needs bulldozing.
I think you hate that you aren't a part of the history so you want to bulldoze everything so that it is new and a part of YOUR history.
Kinda sad/pathetic.

those houses that you said should be bulldozed would all sell for at least 450k. The red brick would go for 525k. They are friends of ours. It is a super nice 1930 home that has been completely renovated to the nines. They spent well over 150k doing so. It is a dump though. Idiotic.

CD, you're obviously one to judge a book by its cover. You talk about wanting to bulldoze Hayes Barton Cafe? Are you freaking kidding me? You don't have any idea what you're talking about. You haven't even stepped foot in any of these places, and you're proclaiming them to be dumps.
BTW, Hayes Barton Cafe is a place where you can't get in the door for the crowds, and you'd better have a reservation if you want a table. Yeah, the place is a real dive.
It's one thing to have a preference for one style over another, but another thing entirely to be a jerk about what you prefer - which is exactly your style. If it were up to people like you, nothing of any historical value would exist today, because it wouldn't be shiny enough for your taste.
Why don't you do us all a favor and keep your judgmental butt in Cary. Cary is welcome to you. I'd rather be in a place with an exciting vibe full of character, rather than the boring "utopia" you describe.

If you are not comfortable in a small "city" like Raleigh, then you should probably not venture too far out of your HOA. Who knows what could happen to you out there!

Overall I think the Five Points area can be a nice place to live for those that work in downtown Raleigh and want a place close by that gives them the feeling of getting away from the city. However, the location doesn't work that well for people who work elsewhere, which is the majority of people. For us it would work the opposite of what we would need. We would leave Five Points to go to work in RTP and then leave Five Points again to enjoy the things we love in Cary. It is worth a drive through to see several cool and well kept McMansions and some good landscaping. But in the end for us, we had a feeling of relief when when exited Raleigh and entered Cary. Cary just offers us the more open and peaceful feeling that we enjoy. But I do have to give props to the Five Points area for being better than many other parts of Raleigh. In my mind, it comes in 3rd in Raleigh behind North Raleigh and then Brier Creek.

What is it with you and McMansions? I just don't get it!

I still can't believe he "called for the bulldozing" of those houses. The charecter in them is great. They aren't run down or anything. They are old, well maintained, with nice character. He was probably just trying to get a rise out of you specifically.

You're absolutely right, Mike, and I am using it as of now. I've had enough of the arrogance and ugliness. Decent people don't go to someone else's home, and proceed to trash everything about the place, which is what he does. It's one thing to have a difference of opinion; it's another thing entirely to be so damn insulting about it.
