My niece and her husband are thinking of moving to the area. They are in their late 20s. I am relatively new to the area and am not sure what areas to show them when they come in for a visit. If they had kids, I'd be all set, but where are the best places to show "younger" people around who don't have kids yet? I only know Cary, but I am not sure that is the right place for them. I have heard I should show them Durham and Raleigh, but where?
I’m 28 and if I was visiting Durham for the first time I would check out downtown in the Historic Tobacco Historic District http://www.americantobaccohistoricdistrict.com/ which also includes the Durham Bulls, although not sure when they are coming so there may not be any games. You can also see the new Durham Arts Center from there http://www.dpacnc.com/ Brightleaf Square, which is also downtown http://www.historicbrightleaf.com/. And of course you have to show them Duke (definitely the chapel) and the Duke Gardens would be nice especially if they will be here when everything is blooming, and Ninth St.! If you aren't familiar with Durham then it will get you out to explore the area as well!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
In Raleigh I would show them 5 Points area, Glenwood South, North Hills and Briar Creek. It covers most of the living styles in Raleigh, from the old ITB to the newer condo and planned neighborhood styles.
In Durham I would show them the Trinity Park area, the North Durham area in the Guess Road and Carver on North, South Pointe area along with Woodcroft. Take them to the ATB, Brightleaf, and Ninth street areas to show them the local scene.
My first thought was the Mordecai Historic Park > Ride the Trolley
City of Raleigh | Ride the Trolley (http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_306_209_0_43/http%3B/pt03/DIG_Web_Content/category/Leisure/Parks_and_Facilities/Mordecai_Historic_Park/Historic_Raleigh_Trolley_Tours.html - broken link)
Since we don't know what sorts of things interest them, it's hard to pin down what to show them. Are they social people who like to go to crowded bars? Do they like to chill at casual hipster places? Are they interested in shopping? I think you get my point here. It would be a lot easier to give you some guidance if you gave us some basic background.
Thanks for the replies, I greatly appreciate them all! As for more info, you are right rnc2mbfl, more info would be more helpful. All I can get is that they are not really into the bar scene anymore, but not ready for all out suburbia and the whole kids thing yet.
I think they have Segway tours of the downtown if they are interested.
