I am hearing different names. Are all these "carriers"? Or names being billed from a large carrier? Curious.

I know....
Sprint
Verizon
Cingular
Nextel
Sprint
T-Mobile
Working Assets (long distance also I see)
What else out there?

Not to change the subject......but on the home phone front I have VOIP from Vonage and for $5 a month more you can get another # in the area code where you used to live. SO when Relatives or friend want to call you it's a local call for them!

Yes, that's what I did. I have a Washington, DC telephone number, although I live in the Asheville Metro Area. Works great for my DC Metro Area (DC/VA/MD) friends.

We just started using Vongage too and it is awesome! We love it and I could be a commercial for them I am so happy with the plan. We just tell our family/friends to hang up and we will call them back.

As far as cell phone plans go we had a heck of time with Verizon where we live. We are in Winston-Salem, so it is probably different in Raleigh, but we couldn't get any calls in our house. We are having better luck with Cingular. Anyway, I am writing to tell you guys about a loop hole we found in the contract that may help you not get stuck with that penalty fee for breaking a contract. After 6+ plus Verizon reps, one finally told us about it! If they deem your service to be unavailable they will let you cancel your plan. They were going to charge us over $300 since we had 2 Verizon phones and I guess a rep must have come out to our driveway, tried to dial and saw we weren't making it up and let us out of our contract!!! I don't think they care about dropping calls around town, but if you get no reception in your house or driveway they will let you out. I hope that helps someone who may get stuck when they move. It isn't easy though - you get transferred to a million different reps before one can help you, but it was well worth the $300 we saved.

I would say cingular. I have Suncom and it's not so great. I see more people with cingular phones than anything else though; so I would assume they are the best.

If you get to a certain amount of minutes on the "Unlimited" Plan, they will send you a letter saying that you are using too many minutes, and that they are going to terminate the contract. Trust me, they did it to numerous customers out in the Wakefield area. And try going outside of the Carolina's and using that unlimited plan, you will get charged out the rear!!

No T-mobile in the Raleigh area.

I've had MCI Worldcom (which went under), Alltel, Cingular, and now Verizon. I liked Cingular the best. Verizon has good coverage here, but it was about the same as Cingular and they have better plans and phones IMO. Alltel was horrible, no signal anywhere and expensive.

I've never had a signal problem within the greater Triangle area or visiting any other main NC cities.
RaleighRob - I had Working Assets long distance before moving out of the country. Would love to consider their cell phone service now that we are moving back to the States. You mentioned their coverage is good in the other main NC cities. Any idea how it is off-the-beaten-track a bit? or on the highway between Cary and Samford?
