I should probably start a thread on this but thought I'd post here first. Any idea on the morning commute time from Cleveland School Road to Six Forks and Strickland in N. Raleigh? It would be around 7:30 ish. Thanks for the inside info!

These photos might not mean much to some but its now the home we love after a long relocation and the stress/strain of uprooting our family. We have a fabulous neighborhood and for anyone contemplating the move, it is SO worth it.
BTW.....these homes are all around $200k (they used to be well under but our home has gone up $10k in the past 6 months), on approx .66 of an acre and about 2100 sf, 3 bdrm, 2 1/2 baths, bonus room, eik, dr, lr with gas fireplace, crown moulding, etc.
Hi there,
Thanks so much for sharing your photos with us. Your home is beautiful and I'm sure it's a great relief to be settled.
I presume (correct me if I am wrong) Clayton is made up of different subdivisions...these subdivisions can be communities or just areas?
Also, is one able to commute to the Research Triangle Park from Clayton? If so, what is the distance/time?
Thanks.
Clare

Clare,
You have to recognize that "Clayton" means a small town, and the surrounding rural subdivisions. Clayton is about 10-12 miles across, East to West, and about as far North to South.
So the commute can vary widely.
An agent in Flowers Plantation tells me that she makes it to I-440 in 27 minutes. I have a hunch that is the best time she makes.
Add on 20+ minutes and on a good day, I think 45 minutes is a good commute to RTP.
Add on the fact that RTP is several miles long and there is additional traffic in RTP from Apex, Morrisville, Durham, Chapel Hill, etc, and there will be days you may be in the car for an hour, if you live well down in Clayton.

Lauren, thank you so much for posting the pictures. Your house is beautiful and the yard is what I'm dreaming of....a decent size yard with lots of trees in the backyard. Are they still building in your neighborhood?

Thank you, Clare (btw love your name including the spelling, its what I picked out for if we had a girl) it is nice to finally be settled. It was a long road. We moved THREE times in less than a year to get here!

I suppose much of the developed area is subdivisions but there is alot of farmland too.

My husband commutes to RTP though he works a 12 hour shift and leaves in the morning pretty early (bout 6am) and leaves work at 7:30. Even at that hour it takes about 45 minutes from where we are. There are parts of Clayton that would shorten the trip by up to 15 minutes. The closer to 40 you are, the shorter the trip. The Clayton area around 40/42 is something to consider if the commute is an issue. We looked there and considered the commute (obviously less is better) but we liked this area better.

Hi PugLuvr,
Actually yes, they just recently cleared the lot next to us and beyond that on one side of the street they are building 5 homes, one of which is purchased. There are also the 2 homes behind us that are almost finished and for sale. The other side of the street isn't even cleared yet which is planned.
Our street is a U off of another street in the back of a subdivision. The front homes do not have trees as that was pasture land previously. The outer lots back up to a huge expanse of wilderness and swamp that goes for miles and miles. The subdivision is called Tafton and its technically in Wendell. Again this is a weird space as we are in Johnston County and pay Clayton property taxes and go to Clayton Schools but Wendell (which is in Wake County) handles our mail so that is our town name. Eventually, we'll probably be annexed in to Clayton and then have to pay city taxes (we only pay county now) but that's probably years down the road.
Here are the homes that are on the MLS here.....

Ok. I get it, at last. Many thanks for the explanation and the patience.

Lauren,
Thanks again for the info. My husband commutes about an hour each way here at the moment. It is handy to get an idea of where things (places) are in relation to each other.

Beautiful pictures Lauren!! We live in Florida with small lots and long commutes. Your home looks like a dream to me. At this point a 45 min commute is a lucky day. It looks like a wonderful place to raise children.
