Francois is dead on. If you compare traffic now to three years ago here it is much more congested. If you live in NJ a drive the Turnpike then move here you would say wow this isent bad, But if you moved from NJ three years ago you might say, its gotten bad here. I could drive to work in 20 minutes three years ago from Cary to Raleigh, Now takes me 45 in the morning and some times 50 in the afternoon. As we grow so does the traffic and different driving styles. I tell you now the non blinker use started about 4 years ago never saw much of that before then...what will traffic be when the projected 1.2 million people move in the next 25 years.

If you are 43 years old and have lived here all of your life, you might just think we have a pretty bad traffic situation. I love when someone that has only been here a few years(the OP) makes staements like this. Not surprising though.

Actually, it was not the OP (me) that made the "statement". It was a study by Inrix, a Washington, D.C.-based research firm, that concluded the statement. The OP (me) just agrees with it when you look at the Triangle "overall". It always amazes me how posting an article somehow turns into the OP wrote it.

Again, that study says we are #51 in congestion, but my question is, what were we 10 years ago? Quite a bit below that, I wager.

I would put money on that also. My commute to RTP (the triangle) is great now that I live in SW Durham. My commute from Cary though sucked!

I agree, I loved in New Jersey and the traffic here does not quite compare to a Friday over the summer down to the Jersey Shore .

I would not trade my 10 minute commute (Durham) for a 30+ minute commute (Cary) for anything.

There's one sure way to cut down on congestion. Impose a European style $3.00 per gallon tax on gasoline.

Yep. I love my 12 to 15 minute easy commute from Cary to RTP. That's about the same as when I lived in SW Durham, except I get to be in Cary at the end of the day.

I've been here 16 years from western NY. From Day One, I noticed that hardly anyone down here used blinkers, especially not Southerners. I'd say, "There's a Yankee!" when I saw someone use a blinker.

I'm not going to get into the old tired traffic debate since so much depends on what you are comparing it to and where in the Triangle you are talking about. However, in the 4 years I've lived in North Raleigh since moving here from NJ I have not noticed any increase or decrease in traffic overall. Seems pretty much the same since I got here. Again, I think it really depends on the situation or more importantly your exact location within the Triangle.
