Does anyone know what golf clubs are closed to new members? I saw on a previous post some time ago that Prestonwood CC allegedly has a long waiting list. My husband and I are interested in golf communities, but if the golf membership is capped out then why bother looking at the community? Furthermore, some public/private hybrid courses appear to charge hefty fees to join. Any thoughts?

I yeild to the golfer's perspective, then!

As the wife of an avid golfer, and not a golfer myself, I go by how often my husband is on the course - golf seems plentiful from my vantage point!

Carolina was never almost sold. RCC did have financial problems and was sold to local business man John McConnell. He has deep pockets and is an avid golfer. They are doing fine now and there is a waiting list to get in. Word is that you must have a 15 handicap to get in.

Golf Digest did an article on CCC last year and the club was almost sold an plowed under according to them.

I would love to see that article. CCC has never been close to ever being sold or going under. That article had to be talking about RCC.

I registered for Relocation Triangle magazine http://www.relocationguide.biz/ and I have been sent 2 country club applications/brochures. Nice places maybe you need to just do that. They were not cheap one over 10,000 but had several packages to fit most people.

No worries. My wife will tell anyone who will listen that I am wrong all the time. Take care.

My hometown of Louisburg is 25 miles north of Raleigh and has a couple of golf courses. Green Hill Country Club is a small town's version of a country club with only a 9 hole course.

Bull Creek Golf and Country Club is public and probably much less expensive/crowded than courses in Raleigh. If green fees are $20-50 less, the 30-40 minute drive for an entire day of golf would be well worth it. bullcreekgolf dot com

Raleighboy is right-10 year waiting list for non-legacies and ~$50k joining fee. There are a lot of older members at this club. If you're into Tennis two good options are North Hills Racket Club off of Six Forks and Raleigh Racket Club off of Falls of the Neuse.

If golf is your game, North Ridge may be an option. You can link here for more golf info: http://www.trianglenchomes4sale.com/Area_20_Golf.html
