Default New to Raleigh - Carolina Country Club?

We just moved to Raleigh and bought a house across from Carolina Country Club on Glenwood Avenue. I called today and asked about membership and they wouldn't even answer any questions about how much it costs, how to get an application, anything...they just said I would have to speak to a member. Does anyone know the details? It seems a little crazy to me.

I don't know anything about Carolina Country Club, but where I grew up, you had to have your name put forth by a member to be considered for membership. You then had to have another member "second" the motion. Only then were you given the membership details and possibly put on a wait list if there is one. Of course, in knowing the member, they would already have told you the details...

Sounds like it might be similar here?

Like I said, i have NO idea about the country club you're looking at, but I will mention that in some country clubs, this system works to perpetuate exclusion by racism. Someone of a race or ethnicity they did not want in the cc would not be rejected b/c they would never be put up for membership in the first place. So check that aspect of it out!

It sounds normal to me. Country Clubs just do not just let anyone in. You have to be sponsored by a member, meet certain requirements and pass a membership review.

This is if they even have openings...many are full and memberships are passed down through families.

Carolina country club is very exclusive, as a pp said, a member has to sponsor you and you have to "pass the test" of other members to get in........

If you have to ask, you cant afford it. Just kidding. I remember someone saying that it was 100K to join or something not to mention the monthly fee. There is Old money and then there is OLLLLLLLD month. CCC is OLLLLLLLD. Good luck to you if its what you want.

I love golf, and I try to go out when I can (although my scores don't show it). Would definitely love to end up in a golf community...if our budget would allow it. Not sure if I would like to join a club that is soooo super exclusive though. Sounds way too stuffy for me.

Anyone know of any new/recent golf community developments where the price of the home or maybe even the HOA fees/dues include access or membership to the golf club (and its amenities like pool, tennis, gym, restaurant, etc.)? I've read a little bit about communites such as Wakefield, Heritage, Treyburn, Prestonwood, MacGregor Downs, etc., but the membership fee seem so overpriced. I've also seen other CCs that seem to be more reasonalble, like Eagle Ridge and Riverwood.

The golf course view/access is on our list of "nice to haves", but not necessarily a deal breaker. It's a lot further down the list, behind commute time, size/quality of the home and lot, "feel" of the neighborhood, schools, etc. If it doesn't work out well financially, guess I'll just have to settle for semi-private of public courses. Seems like there's plenty of them around at reasonable rates...although I wouldn't know the quality of the course itself.
Any hackers out there w/ input on this one?

Default triple c

I believe that it now cost 46k join now. For non legacies, the waiting list is 10 or so years. North Ridge and Raleigh Country Club are both very nice clubs that will not have nearly the waiting list. Raleigh and CCC are both Donald Ross courses. Good luck.

^ Yeah, I have heard Raleigh Country Club, while also being rooted in the "old money", has historically been no where near as "exclusive" as Carolina.

People moving in can basically forget about Carolina Country Club. It is as "Old Raleigh" as you can get and only those connected by family, fame or major wealth have even a chance by invitation only.

Regarding other golf course communities, like anything else, you get what you pay for. Most of the nicer ones, Preston, etc are separate from the neighborhood and require a buy in.
