Default High speed internet issues

I have a Time Warner high speed RoadRunner connection. At least once or twice a day my internet connection disappears. It doesn't appear to be my router or computer (I've tried different ones and it happens with each). Time Warner says it's not them, but I'm skeptical.

Does anyone else have this problem? I work at home so I need to have a steady connection with my company server.

Do any DSL users have a similar problem? I'm considering switching to DSL.

I have had a few dropouts recently with RoadRunner.
Never noticed before. I'm not at the computer all day, but I have seen it more often lately.
They seem to be brief just a couple of minutes or less and most of my work isn't all that critical, so they are a minor nuisance. To me.
If I lost data or other work that I was transmitting to work, that wouldn't be the case..

ETA:
Recently moved my desk downstairs, and wireless router is upstairs. Wireless G.
Signal is weaker than it had been, and I moved the router 15 feet closer, getting a better signal although it has to pass through a couple of walls.
But I think what I am seeing is TWC, not my network, with my card showing strong signal and an intermittent dropout.

We're ditching TW cable when we move into our new home. We have numerous outages a week with both internet and cable. For teevee, there are many viable options. For internet, not so much. Unfortunately, RR seems to be the best of the bunch, which isn't saying a lot... Kind of like winning a footrace of fat kids.

I work from home and am an avid online gamer and haven't noticed a problem with disconnects. When I lived in Apex it seemed like I'd need to cycle the modem/router ever other week or so, but I haven't had that issue at this house.

I've had mixed results with DSL - it was completely unusable when I lived in Virginia in a 30 year old subdivision. The age of the telephone cable/wiring plus distance from the CO made it a no go. I disconnected constantly. At the prior house (same subdivision) I lived in it was much better, but that may be because I had ISDN previously and they may have run new wires (or found good circuits for me). Anyhow, DSL is a good option if you live in a newer area, but your TWC experience is definitely not typical.

Oh, and - not sure if this matters with the service - but I'm in Raleigh.

I'm in Chapel Hill, and for the most part my TWC RoadRunner service is rock solid. Very infrequently do I have to reset my cable modem. Now, my cable TV is another issue . . .

I hear many more reports of bad DSL in this area from numerous suppliers than I do from TWC RR. They are by far the best.

A few things:
1) how old is the drop to your house and do you have any splitters? The weaker the signal into the modem the worse off you are. If your house is old the drop might be old, but getting anyone out to check the signal at the end of the drop is like pulling teeth. I would start by looking at the wiring in the house, look for loose connectors and look for splitters. Best setup is a two way splitter from the drop, one line going to the modem and the other feeding your video in the house.

2) If you have residential service think about switching to business class. The customer support difference is like night and day. You will pay more but you can say "this is a business" vs "this is my home".

When I first ordered TWC (High Speed RR) internet service in Cary, my connection dropped constantly. Turned out to be a bad modem. Then it happened again, and it was also the modem. Third time was a charm. I have had this modem for the last year and a few months (moved with us to Durham) with no real problems....I notice a few quick blips sometimes during the day, but it seems to be related to an application I use rather than TWC because it only effects one web application and not the others (I could be wrong). When that happens I just have to reopen the application which is a pain, but not life threatening.
It is imparitive for me to have fast, consistant service as I work from home, and everything I do is via the web. So far I have to say that my connection is much faster than it was when we had DSL.
Best of luck!

I've had to swap out my modem a few times too. The problem usually starts with connection issues, so try asking for a new one. The only hassle is having to take it in (has anyone ever been there and NOT had to wait in line for at least 15 mins?).
