Default Best bet for carpet replacement in one room? (N. Raleigh)

I need to replace the carpet in only my living room. Seems hardly worth it to haul someone out for that! I see Lowes and Home Depot are offering $139 for labor for whole house installation, but I was hoping to go with someone local if possible. Anyone have any ideas?

In case anyone is wondering why I'm getting carpet in the first place, my living room is bordered by tile in the kitchen and hard wood in the foyer. I'd like wood but can't afford it and worry that laminant won't match the real wood it would be bordering. I hate carpet, especially with my 3 furry pets!

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

Check with the Better Business Bureau.
Unfinished laminates are available and can be used to match your current floor color.
If you already have 3/4inch hardwood they may have to build up the floor under the carpet to meet the height of the hardwoods.
Good Luck. Bill

I think they could match the height, but I don't think they could match the look. If it weren't directly bordering the real wood, I wouldn't be so picky. But it would be a pretty obvious from the wood to the laminate and I'm not too keen on that.

I have a mix of flooring on my first floor - old worn hardwood foyer, laminate in the living room/kitchen and carpet in the office and dining room. I have three dogs and am loving the laminate - it's so easy to keep clean. I don't even really notice the hardwood/laminate border. Eventually I'll probably put laminate in the foyer. Anyhow, I'd weigh the appearance of different flooring with ease of care. For a small carpet job you might be able to find someone on Craigslist to help you out. Otherwise I'm sure you could get a per square yard installation price without having to pay the $139 whole house install price.
