Default Sal's Pizzeria coming to Durham

I noticed this morning there is a new sign outside the old Indian restaurant on NC-55 across from Starbucks, near the 54/55 interchange. Sal's Pizzeria. Is anyone familiar with this restaurant? Are there other locations or is this new to the area?

Default We love Joe & his family at Sal's

Sal's is currently located on Hwy. 54 just past Hwy. 55 and the railroad tracks (if you heading into RTP) and has been there for 20 years. Great homemade food, great family! They are not connected to the Sal's in Chapel Hill in any way and this is their only location.

Although they have a great menu, they have a nice buffet for lunch M-F and also evenings on Wednesday and Saturday. When it's cold out they add homemade soup to the lunch buffet which is excellent.

They'll have alot more parking in the new location and sure the food will still be excellent!! They said it should be just a couple more weeks till the move so we're still visiting them at their current location.

Gotta put in another Big Thumbs Up for Sal's. We've been going there since we moved here in 1995 (it was literally the first place we went out to eat the night we arrived!) We love their pizza and their food. The buffet was great when the kids were little because it was so fast and now it's great for feeding two hungry teenagers. Great family place!

When I was in school at Elon College , Sal's Pizza was a favorite hang out. I wonder if it is related.

No it isn't, but it sure seems like a popular name to use for Italian restaurants in this area! Funny, the owner of the Durham Sal's is Joe. Don't remember why it's called Sal's.... Anyone out there know the story?

I think I remember that at one time the three local Sal's were all related. I think someone told me they were all cousins. However at some point they each decided to go their own way. But this is information coming from the misty depths of my memory so it could all be my imagination

That sounds vaguely familiar. I'll ask Joe next time I'm at the Durham Sal's. All these Sal's get confusing!
