Durham's Trinity Heights is Battling Issues With 20 Somethings
I saw a report on the news tonight talking about rowdy college kids disrupting the Trinity Heights neighborhood and making life miserable for the residents. What a shame. This is why I don't like the 20 something or slightly younger crowd. Listen children, play nice and think of others. People are trying to enjoy their lives.
Durham residents complain of late night parties :: WRAL.com
"Though the area may appear peaceful, some residents say late night parties are disrupting the area. “It’s complete thoughtlessness and lack of consideration that never seems to change,” Rupprecht said."

Why do I hear "little boxes made of ticky-tacky" in my head whenever I read your posts?
Well, don't worry too much about it. You're in Cary, where the parents can export their unruly, noisy children to a university town, and then after they've grown out of it, Cary can just import the ones who will buy their way back into the comfort of sameness. It's pretty comforting when everything looks the same on the outside, isn't it?

Yeah, well the neighborhood where I lived in metro Atlanta had an older guy in his 50's who was very racist and said very hurtful things to several of my neighbors of other ethnic backgrounds. Does that mean I should not like anyone in that age range as well?

Nobody between the ages of 20 and 29 lives in Cary.

This isn't about Cary. This is about the residents of Trinity themselves complaining about the disruption caused by these college kids. It was enough of an issue for the news to run a story about it. I am on the side of the fine residents that live in the Trinity area that want some peace and quiet. I don't blame them one little bit for being upset.

What people are reading is what's between the lines and unsaid.
Almost everything you post about Cary is elevated with exclamation points, thumbs up, happy faces, etc. while much of what you post about Durham (especially), Raleigh and other places in the Triangle is overtly negative or highlights bad things happening in those places. Now, that isn't to say that you don't stray from that pattern from time to time. But, it is a very noticeable pattern to everyone else.
So, now, despite any intentions you may or may not have for any particular post, you are carrying that reputation on your shoulders.

Just to clarify, here are some of my pro Durham/Raleigh and anti Cary posts. There are a lot more, but that doesn't seem to matter to some.

That being said, I am SUPPORTING the wonderful people that live in the Trinity area. I feel for them. I can appreciate their frustration that "they" voiced about the situation. This is just "one" example of what turns me off about the 20 something crowd, as it is NOT isolated.

good information
Our family is moving to the triangle soon, and I am trying very, very hard to keep everyone thinking positively about some of the neighborhoods in central Durham. It would make so much sense from the standpoint of proximity to work, access to public transportation, walkability, etc. But this kind of story just kills it for me. I can't imagine plunking down 500-900K for a beautiful historic home and then finding out later that every weekend we would have to deal with loud, intoxicated college students.

You will be able to do well if you take some time doing a lot of investigation. I would not rely on any pro Durham cheerleading posts that you may read. I wouldn't recommend that someone make a decision based on my pro Cary posts either. I think the posts can enlighten you to how people feel, but in the end you need to do some real research. One of the best things you can do is spend time in each neighborhood you are considering. If you can spend enough time observing and listening, then you will have a much better idea of how you will like it. I highly doubt that every area in Durham is having the trouble that "some" residents are having in that section of Trinity. There are some stunningly beautiful sections of Durham that you need to see. One of the great things about Durham is that you can find suburban, urban and country living all in the county. Durham may or may not be for you, but it is worth a look.
