NO HOA = NO COMMUNITY POOL, So options locally?
Hello, as we get closer to buying a home, we have definately decided we want to have a community pool nearby. Now before I go and cancel a whole lot of our "favorites" on our realtors list because they do not have any HOA fees since that usually means they also do not have any community pool either, which is not good for us and our two girls. We are looking around south to southwest Cary area, or Apex. So my question is: Is their a local alternative YMCA or ?? I did see a huge new YMCA in my travels, but I can't remember if that was the Holly Springs area or Apex? Let me know where you take your kids for swimming and fun locally, and in which area you live in. Much appreciated.

Wake Forest has a community pool, and Raleigh has several, not sure about other areas, but have you checked the town web sites for Holly Springs and Apex? They'd be listed there is anywhere.

A lot of pools permit memberships by non-residents. We are in North Cary and I definitely know that the River Rock Pool here is open to all. This is a good list of neighborhood pools (it's actually a list of local swim teams) and you can check with individual ones to make sure they take outside memberships.
Tarheel Swimming Association
The Y you've seen is probably the Kraft Y, which is closer to Holly Springs. There is also the Cary Y, which would be closer to Apex. Both can be found here: http://www.ymcatriangle.org/home.aspx A lot of people I know in south Wake like the Lifetime Fitness in Cary, which does have very nice pool facilities.

Scottish Hills Recreational Club is open to the public.
Most years it is sold out, but it is worth checking.

Not having an HOA is a blessing. You can find a place to swim without the grief an HOA can bring to your life.

Personally if I had kids and a pool was important, I'd just buy in a pool community (or perhaps one where you could join an adjacent subdivision's pool). Much easier to walk up the street to a pool rather than pack everyone in the car every day. That's my opinion, anyhow.

The pool at the YMCA in Cary (on Cary Pkwy) is actually really nice, however it does get crowded on weekends. It is heated in the winter and they put up a huge inflated bubble so it stays warm. There is also a nice water slide and a kids area in the summer.
