How active is the Asian Indian community in Raleigh/Cary? We are in our mid 30's with a 3 year old child and want her to have a culturally rich upbringing. I heard the Indian community is fairly large, but how many people does that mean? What are the activities?

Well, I think it is large.
I read somewhere that the Triangle is one of the largest Indian population centers in the US.

I don't have exact numbers, but there do seem to be lots of activities around the holidays. It the South Asian Indian population seems to be centered in Cary.

Here is an article from a few years (but it seems to have information that would still be useful...it might give you a place to start.

I find it amusing that it mentions eye-brow threading as oppoused to the western way of waxing....more and more of my friends are having this done. There is another thread here recently, http://www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...=british+asian that mentions the Bollywood theatre in Cary and other things.

There is a large Indian strip mall at the intersection of Hillsborough and Maynard in Cary, not far north from the Cary Mall.

There is huge Indian communites in Morrisville, restaurants and grocery stores. Also, lots of them lived in West Cary caused mostly they worked in RTP. In my subdivison, at least half of my neighbors are Indians and they may relocate from CA Silicon Valley, NY...e.t.c

Also, there is huge Indian Festival in Fairgrounds and local Indian newspaper in Triangle.

Not all of then are from India though. We attend some of these because my daughter has several friends whose families are from there and my daughter wants to see her friends dance or have dinner with them. Always a wonderful time.
