I agree 100%. This must be the same designer that had Centex put the water heater in the attic.
"Raindrops keep fallin' on my head" so I better call a plumber and carpenter.

I actually prefer to have the water heater upstairs. I hate when they are in the garage because it takes up valuable space. The garage sizes in Raleigh are very small compared to where we come from (Detroit) so I like it that way. 99% of the time there are no problems with the water heaters leaking so I'll take my chances.
Plus, on my Centex home the water heater is on our 3rd floor walk-up attic right above the master bathroom tub on the 2nd floor. If it happened to leak it would just be caught by the bathtub.

Just an FYI...
The problem is alot of times they dont leak, they burst. If your water heater is in the attic, be proactive about looking it over and changing it out before it fails. I have seen catastrophic damage from water heaters in attics as an inspector. I would attest that alot more than 1% of water heaters leak. I see 2 or 3 a week out of 15 or so houses that leak at the temperature pressure relief valve. My favorite place to see them is the crawlspace where they cant do too much damage.

we just moved to nc and were very interested in a mccarr neighborhood due to the location - only new construction in miles. a spec home is available and it's one of the last ones. does anyone know if mccarr has shaped up due to all these previous issues? perhaps they're using better materials, have better quality, etc.? help!

Anyone bought in Carramore recently?
I too am looking at a spec home in Carramore, but after reading comments am very concerned about quality issues. (I know spec homes cannot be inspected as easily since they are already built.)
Is there anyone who has bought or built in Carramore recently who can attest to the quality of construction?
Has it improved since 2006/7? I would hope they would have dealt with initial difficulties and improved their contractors and buildling process. I sense they are still slow to follow up on problems identified during the 1 year warranty period.
I am also considering building a home at Weston Oaks (Centex) in Cary, but would prefer being closer to NC-55 for commute to Duke. Another possiblity is Horton's Creek (Baker Residential) on Green Level to Durham Road, but do not know much about the builder.
Thanks.

hi! first off when we saw the plans and images from their website we were like wow! now after reading these reviews i'm like hmm...but jst to share my 2 cents...we walked in on friday at 6pm and the saleslady seemd the least interested to sell(ashton hall)...did not take our contact info etc. nor seemd to care....then we decided to drive around...don't know if they're legal or illegal but the way they worked seemd kinda half hearted...so i gave up on the community simply due to bad service and now thankfully...due to the reviews...
we are considering a standard pacific home in brightleaf and hope that goes in our favor

Funny, we bought in Brightleaf and wanted to go check out Ashton Hall last weekend - the model home was locked and there was nobody in the sales center.
I would say, however, that the houses are very attractive (albeit slightly small lot-wise) but I am indeed partial to Brightleaf!

FWIW, I purchased a house in Carramore (McCar in Cary) in fall 07. We had two inspections during the build (pre-drywall and pre-closing). Our inspector commented that initially many of the houses in Carramore were not the best but that he was pleasantly surprised by the quality of ours. It seems they might have ironed out some of the problems (or maybe we just got lucky). I have been happy with the quality of the construction. We just had our one year walk-thru and really didn't have many issues (except excessive floor pops - they fired the framing crew since then) and so far have been fairly responsive in addressing our concerns. Again, maybe we are just lucky but so far we have had a positive experience.
