We went to Stonegate and looked ourselves. We thought the subdivision was very well done but the houses themselves turned us off. (We didn't like paying $250-$300K for a house and having it on a slab, etc. Plus, the lots were small and the floorplans in the houses we were looking at didn't meet our needs.)

We ended up buying in Dansforth instead which is a mile (if that) away from Stonegate.

They were very nice to work with at the office there, though. I cannot speak about their construction quality, however.

We looked at 2 houses in Stonegate a few months back. Both were the exact same house/floorplan, but they were across the street from each other. One was built in 2005 and was the Stonegate parade of homes entry. The other was built in 2006 as a normal spec home.

The build quality of the parade home was very good, of course. I did not see any visible problems. However, the spec home was another matter. Every room that I walked into had at least one "issue" that I noticed. All of them were minor, but they were noticeable enough that the site foreman should have noticed them too and had the workers fix it. Items ranged from cracked fireplace tiles, poor quality wood used for the trim work, etc.

The spec homes here seem to have more problems than the models or the older homes (3+ years older). A neighbor monitoring my home being built (it was a spec when I came across it later on....), said my home was put up very quickly. Perhaps the models and the homes on parade (we have one in our neighborhood, too) have careful attention to detail done to them because so many people will be viewing them for potential purchase???

I was so excited to see McCar's homes in Miramonte (Apex I think) and was sooooooooo let down when we got there. The place looked like it was built by a bunch of amateurs. We commented to the woman giving the tour and she said oh it will all be finished soon. We were not convinced and would never even look at another home of theirs! So sorry for those who bought there.

Unacceptable is unacceptable...unless your contract states "unrefundable deposit" then it is refundable! I wouldn't buy if it is unacceptable...there are plenty of homes out there.

Smile Turned out positive after all.

After some additional time the McCar team did come around and give us a fair return of our money. My advice is to be persistent and vigilant with all of your dealings with this company.

Talking McCar Homes Apex, NC

My son just bought a McCar Home 2 day's ago. They are very strict on their requirements to buy their homes. He has two weeks to close on house. Loan already approved and bank is able to complete close when requested.
When we went into this sub. we found it to be very well taken care of. They had a house that has a contingency on it, and they were willing to take another offer on it. When they called the buyers they said they would close on this house. However they had another house where the buyers had not qualified for the loan. The buyers had put in $24,800 in upgrades. Because this house would have been out of my son's price range, and he was interested in another new sub. They offered him the house at the base price of that model. He jumped at the offer. Now who do you suppose had to eat that $24,800???? Someone....I bet the people who did not qualify for the loan surely didn't have that money.
Builders are in the business of making money. If they don't turn the houses on a timely manner, they still have loans on their existing homes, and can't build others until they get more money.
My son now ownes a home that will be worth $24,800 more when he moves in. He also ownes the least expensive house in the neighborhood.
So did he mind their demands????NO....Were their demands stressful...YES... If you can not afford to purchase a home before you sell your existing, you should think of buying another existing home. Most will take your contingencies. However those of you that do make those offers that you can't fullfill ALL THE REAL BUYERS THANK YOU
