Cricket for internet service?
Hello everyone,
I am driving back down to raleigh tommorow from up North. Of course the minute I pull into my house I want to be able to get online.
Right now i am on cable internet service. So cant take that with me.
I have Verizon for cell phone usage(family plan) but I am hesitant to get the broadband wireless internet with them because of cost and the cap on usage.
My Ex husband recommended Cricket for broadband and said I can use it when I travel in a Cricket area and it only costs around 40-45.00 per month. IE so when I go back home I can use it.
Has anyone had any experience with them and do you recommend it or do you not recommend it and why?
Thank you in advance.
P.S. I did do a search on here but more confused than ever. lol

I just looked at their website and it's dialup with an accelerator. Not nearly as fast as cable. It's $30 a month for $10-15 more you can get Road Runner!

I haven't eval'd it yet, but it looks like a good deal.
Cricket Wireless | Cricket Broadband
$40 for wireless broadband, similar to the ones the other cell companies are offering.

Ok, just a repost based on my experience. Drove into Raleigh tuesday afternoon. Went right to Cricket and purchased set up. (127.00) plus activation fee.
Wednsday set it up and logged on. Had trouble all day trying to watch Obama's Town hall interview. Then went to youtube. Same thing. Took forever to load up and then every few sentences it stopped and reloaded. So I went to my favorite radio station to try that and was able to listen.
Finally called the 1-800 number and spoke with a very nice woman who said she "needed to jump start my system remotely from office". She did that.I rebooted and a few hours later after not being able to view any CNN video's or Greys Anatomy re run from the ABC site I called back and got this really nice guy John who said to me in a matter of fact way that "cricket is not able to support web sites like that at this time".He also stated that "someone should have told me this before I signed up". I thanked him for his honesty and drove the equipment right back to Cricket. Even though it was within 24 hrs I had to pay a fee and also lost my activation fee. I did get back the 127.00 .
All in all a 50.00 learning experience.
I drove to Verizons and thankfully had someone equally as honest and based on my internet viewing I was vulnerable to going over the 5 Gigs(?) for 59.00 per month. so went home called Time warner and they are coming out Sunday morning!
Whew.
I am using library computer now to type this. LOL
So folks thats my story and my experience.
Hope it helps someone else.

Where I live, I am unable to get roadrunner or DSL. I woud love to have roadrunner, but that isn't a possibility. For Christmas, my DH got me Cricket broadband. It isn't as fast as DSL and definately not as fast as roadrunner, but it is acceptable.
Youtube plays well on IE but not through AOL.
It is best to plug in through the cord with the two USBs to give it enough power to work smoothly.
The customer service isn't great. The two times I've had to call (which is why I know the cord works best BTW) I was on "waiting for a repersentative" for over an hour.
I would be clear on the roaming fees (if they apply) if you are going to use for travel.
**I didn't go with verizion (cell phone plan) because after research, I found that you HAVE to sign a contract (for a reasonable price) and they wouldn't let me out of it if verizion telephone came through with DSL availability. I was also confused on the rate plans.... nobody could tell me what an average usage would be or if i would have any kind of warning that I could go over. Plus, the salesman's eyes just glazed over when I asked him these questions.... quite rude if you ask me.... I was serioulsy looking into getting the service but because he didn't have the info I needed, I wouldn't sign a contract. He then started looking past me to the next person in line. He'd already written me off.
