I am a native NYer and Raleigh is not NYC. How about a suburb of Raleigh where grandma can coexist peacefully.

New York has Broadway and Raleigh has Broadway South thats the give away. We are twin cities linked by the Broadway umbilical cord.

I'll ask my mother tonight. She just left Raleigh this morning on Amtrak for NY (actually NJ, where my sister lives). After a couple of days in the NY/NJ area, she usually can't wait to get back to Raleigh. If anything, Raleigh is more like Long Island than NYC.
