I often do that myself. I heard Raleigh is going to buy the statue of liberty and move it downtown, any truth to that rumor?
I heard that too! In stead of being in the NY Harbor she will be set in NC Tar, (at least up to her heels).
Said one NY official (who was not authorized to speak to the press), "she lasted a long time and seen lot of changes in NY and now its time to galvanize her stature (or is that Statue?) and let her retire to the South. Especially since the Raleigh area is the fastest growing Metro area in the USA as of 2008. Just like NYC area was when she landed here from France! We all wish her solid footing and an eternal lite touch in her retirement!"
NYC = Raleigh, NC. (NOT!) Before 1642 they looked like each other. After that point NYC went vertical and Raleigh well stayed Southern Pine-able. Speed up the clock to 2009 and the two look the same as Los Angeles and Bakersfield.
Raleigh NC has population of 380,000 people while NYC has 8,300,000. Some of the minor differences:
NYC has a Subway. In Raleigh we eat at Subway.
NYC has trains with people. In Raleigh we have trains with box cars.
NYC has buildings that reach the clouds. Raleigh has few clouds.
NYC has central park. Raleigh has a central garage.
NYC has accidents. Raleigh has wrecks.
NYC has expensive car insurance. Raleigh has lower car Inn-surance.
I live in NYC and believe me, the two are incomparable. You could literally place 3 or 4 Raleighs in NYC and still have room for other things. My wife and I visited NC last year and simply love it to the point where we would like to move there one day. As far as the people are concerned, they are quite the opposite too but don't get me started on that.
Ask your grandmother "Why?" Ask her why she thinks Raleigh is like NYC. In may be, in her perspective, that it IS! Maybe there are too many people. Maybe she's heard of or knows of crime, and it reminds her of NYC -- or what she perceives of NYC. Maybe there are too many different types of people. Maybe the cost of housing in Raleigh is too high compared with where she's living now (just like NYC is too high compared to nearly everywhere).
Your grandmother is entitled to her own opinion. If she thinks that Raleigh is like NYC, then maybe, in her view, it is.
Once you find out her reasons, then you can analyze whether or not her theories are valid. That will also help you determine if there are any areas in the Triangle that would fit both of your needs.
Well, if you grew up deep in the swamp, you might think Raleigh is similar to New York City.
Kinda like, if you grew up in New York City, you might think Raleigh is similar to the swamp.
