'Cuegrass Festival at "The Pit" in Downtown Raleigh April 4, 2009 (11am-4pm)
This looks like an awesome opportunity to get outside this weekend and hear some free bluegrass while trying some great local beer and cue. With the weather forecast calling for it to be sunny and 70º I can't think of a better way to spend Saturday afternoon with family and friends!
Here are the details from the good people over at the New Raleigh Blog:
"The First Annual ‘Cuegrass Festival will occur Saturday April 4th at The Pit in downtown Raleigh from 11am-4pm (benefiting Feed the Farm, “a local non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to N.C. farmers in need”).
The Festival will be comprised of beers from LoneRider and Aviator breweries, three NC bands (Old Habits, Filmore Valley Boys and Town Mountain) as well as The Pit’s bbq and “Pigs on Parade” silent auction (which features piggy banks from local artists).
Whole Foods will also provide small pigs statues for children to paint and take home, with other activities for children. Other event participants include the N.C. Museum of Natural Science, Raleigh Little Theatre, Feed The Farm and more.
The event will be held on the street outside The Pit at 328 W. Davie Street in downtown Raleigh, and is free and open to the public. Pitmaster Ed Mitchell will be cooking barbecued pork and ribs for sandwiches served hot off the cooker for $5 each, and local brews will be served for $5 each, with proceeds going to Feed The Farm. (The restaurant will also be open for regular business.) Bring your lawn chairs, grab some ‘cue and a brew, and sit back and enjoy an afternoon of live bluegrass music"

I saw this and so hate we are going to miss it! It is spring break for Wake County schools, so we are heading to Washington NC for some boating, birding and the Beaufort County Traditional Music Festival!
Another great event this weekend that I hate to be missing is "REP Sings: The BLUES
Join REP on April 4th for another wonderful evening of music hosted by Canady Thomas and featuring the vocal talents of REP Friends and Family members. More than 80 folks attended the first REP Sings in January and we anticipate another great crowd. The evening benefits REP's DREAM.BELIEVE.DO Campaign and
the company's efforts to complete its new home at 213 Fayetteville Street in Downtown Raleigh.
Brett Wilson and Deb Royals-Mizerk perform at REP Sings in January.
Admission is FREE. Wine, Beer, Sodas, and Pop Corn will be served throughout the evening. Donations will be accepted and are greatly appreciated. Join the fun from 7:30-10PM in Gallery 2 of Artspace, 201 East Davie Street.

Sweet, I think we are going to go. My brother has an exchange group from Germany here, and they might go as well, to experience some very American music and food. It should be fun. I hope there's a good turnout.

FYI, I plan to try both the Aviator and LoneRider beers and report back. Hope to get some quality pictures too!
