How do you prefer your bedrooms situated?
It seems like many folks, particularly aging baby boomers want the master on the first floor.
Young families seem most comfortable on the same level with the kiddo's
What's your preference?
Why?

I'll have to go with Master upstairs with the kids rooms upstairs too. Youngest child is 4 years old and both kids said dh and I have to sleep upstairs with them. This is the only arrangement they have ever known. Must admit, since I've lived in urban areas for the last 20 years I'm use to the "security" of sleeping upstairs. Yes, I realize the security is probably more in my head than tangible.

But if the house was set up right I would consider a master on the main IF the master led to an outdoor patio or deck. (Yeah, I know... the outside doors might create a security risk.)

We like having our master upstairs. Feels more homey and secluded. Also, our kids are all 6yo and younger so we need to be within hearing distance. When they're teenagers on the other hand...I may change my mind

Mine are teenagers so we're ready to be on a separate floor.

We didn't really have many options in our current price range, but it just so happens that at this point in our lives (no children) we prefer to have all the bedrooms upstairs. It works well for us when we are entertaining friends and family from out of town and one of the guests or their children need to go to bed early. By having the bedrooms upstairs it provides the guests privacy and a quiet environment to sleep while the rest of the guest stay up later into the evening.

we are specifically looking for a Master NOT on first floor. WE have young kids so that is probably part of it. Also, when you have company stay the night its nice to give them the "downstairs" bedroom I think.

In an ideal world, we would want a home with a master and guest suite on the first floor, with other bedrooms on the second floor. That way, the second floor could be kidville when my husband's children are with us, and our aging and decreasingly mobile aging parents wouldn't have to go up stairs when they visit. We could close off the second floor when it wasn't being used, saving energy and giving me less to clean. Further, in the long term, it would be nice for us as we get older not to have to run up and down stairs all the time.

I want all bedrooms up because I want to be close to the baby. She only sleeps part of the night in her own room and then sleeps with me. I want to be able to hear when she wakes up, and I also don't want to have to be going up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. I also want the guest room up because half the time we end up sleeping in there because my husband can be a light sleeper.
