Mez Mexican restaurant - any good?
I'm always looking for good local restaurants, especially with outdoor seating. Is Mez Mexican restaurant any good?

Not nearly as good as the prices would suggest. The bar and atmosphere is good, but imo the food is pretty overpriced. It is really the only "high" end place in RTP though. Not to say at all the food is bad, just pricey for what it is.

I don't think it's terribly expensive. Maybe $8-15 for a lunch entree. I've never been for dinner. But I also don't think it's that good. The food is kind of bland IMO. It's very colorful, which leads me to expect it to be spicy and/or flavorful, but it disappoints. They also don't bring chips and salsa or anything (as far as I remember). Too "classy" for that, I guess. That said, I still go there sometimes. It's not like there's a ton of choices in RTP, and one can only take so much Jimmy Johns. I suggest you try it and make up your own mind. There are plenty of people who love it, and while more expensive than I usually spend at lunch, a meal at Mez is not going to break the bank.

I've been 3 times...lunch & dinner. Had a great lunch, a not so great dinner and a just ok dinner. It's hit or miss best I can tell. Worth checking out at least once though.

Really entirely different type of Mexican so you can't compare it IMO.

It doesn't compare. It is almost like two different restaurants.
Mez is great though. The food is adventurous and fun. I am a fan of the fish tacos. You get two big taco as a main entree at lunch and at dinner it is a 'small plate'. But I think it is filling enough for either meal.

'dats da joke.
Seriously, though - Mez is overpriced. It's tasty, but definitely overpriced. It is NOT red sauce/yellow cheese Mexican food. You will NOT find 2 cheese enchiladas, a chile relleno, rice, and beans on a combo plate for 6.95.
It's interesting, some fusion-style takes on Mexican food. Nice ambiance, and yes, outdoor seating.
El Dorado as a point of comparison is....well, interesting. ED is....not....good.
