ITB Auto Mechanic around Cameron Village?
Hello All! My check engine light came on inexplicably this morning, and so far my only car maintenance in the area has been at a Firestone that I suspect is not as concerned with long term maintenance as I would want. I see many threads for auto mechanic referrals in North Raleigh (apparently people don't own cars ITB anymore?), but how about down here in Cameron Village? Anyone know a good mechanic that won't rob me when I go in with a check engine light and no other idea what the problem could be? It's a 2003 Hyundai Accent, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Well, my favorite ITB mechanic is Village Motorwerks, but I believe they only handle German cars.
My brother-in-law's favorite is Brown's That one might work for you.

We have two Hondas, so go to TAO auto, which is on Capital right past Wade Ave for big things, like the new transmission we need on one of them now. They are great. For smaller things, I have had good luck with the guys at the 66 at Ridgewood S.C.

BTW, you can go to your auto parts store and get a device that will read the code for your check engine light. It can save you some money in case you encounter an unscrupulous mechanic.
Oh and I would stay far, far away from Firestone.

Actually, Advance Auto or AutoZone will read the code for you.

Just don't let the mechanic tell you that it's your radio or something totally unrelated. The dealer tried this on me once for a CEL. Understand that the CEL will come on when you didn't tighten your gas cap or some reading on your O2 sensor is off (basically something related to emissions). Nothing to do with your CV joint, radio, etc...
But the previous poster is right, take it to AutoZone and get it scanned. If you're lucky, you'll be able to find a Hyundai forum on the internet with help on your specific fault code.
