I just received my teaching degree/certificates in NY - and I am looking to relocate to the Raleigh area with my boyfriend. We are both in our early 20's and I am having mixed feelings about moving. We don't want to actually live in the city of Raleigh but are looking to live in an outside suburb - where would be a safe, friendly, and some-what developed town/city to move?

Also, I am not sure about teaching in NC - I know all of the districts are very different - I would be teaching in an elementary school and I am just wondering what are the pros/cons of teaching in Wake county - and are any specific schools better than others?

Things important to me: salary, safety, demographics of the school, benefits, cleanliness, classroom size and environment of the school.

Also- my boyfriend has his own flooring business here in NY - he is hoping to continue this in NC - are there a variety of flooring companies that have work? Who would be good to contact? How hard is it to get a DBA? etc.

Thank you so much!

Smile Teaching in NC

Wake County (which is the Raleigh/Cary area) is the fastest growing school system in NC---- building many new schools, you should check out there website it will give you a great deal of info: www.wcpss.net Schools in NC are county run. As far as your boyfriend in the flooring business, shouldn't be a problem, there is so much building going on around the area.

Good luck

Thank you so much - I have actually already looked at the website and even interviewed with Wake County here in NY. I am just curious what those of you living there actually think about the school system and any input you may have (good or bad) on specific elementary schools.

Also, any information on teacher benefits? Incentives for relocation? Unions or no unions? Tenure?

It is also great to know NC is growing! When it comes to flooring businesses - are there any to avoid or any that have a good reputation?

Thanks so much!!

Check the website for specific info on benefits, etc. www.wcpss.net or check Teach4NC.org regarding requirements.

Default TO OTHER TEACHERS, what district do you recommend teaching in/avoiding?

I'm a Special Needs Early Childhood teacher currently teaching in AZ, and am considering relocating to NC. I am hoping to hear directly from other teachers in NC which districts they recommend teaching in, and which ones they suggest avoiding...??? Thanks so much!
