My front entry door has a sidelight on either side of the door . Both sidelights are rotten at the bottom and I am weighing the options of repair against replacement of the whole doorway
Has anyone had a similar repair that they can recommend and, lastly, what does it cost?
TIA

It's faster and easier to replace the entire doorway as one complete unit instead of trying to take apart and rebuild sections of the old one depending on the severity of the wood rot.

Get a "repair quote" and compare it to a "replacement quote".

If repairing, use only synthetic materials so you will not be repairing it again.

If replacing, use only synthetic materials so you will not be replacing it again.

Can you tell that we are big fans of PVC materials for EVERYTHING on the outside trim that is not structural? Bugs won't affect it, it won't rot, squirrels don't like it for tooth sharpening, and unless you burn it, you should NEVER have to deal with it again. We use these products exclusively because we only want to fix things once.

We had the same issue in our old townhouse & decided to replace the whole door structure (door, two side windows, top window) since they all were in one piece to begin with & were advised against replacing piecemeal due to them all being interconnected & key pieces were rotten. We're glad we went with the complete replacement as we were able to switch everything to rotproof.
