I can be worth it if you are in the area....they keep almost all of their beer in coolers...something like 36 of them. They have more of the standard domestics then Sam's but we've found some gems there even before Sams had them. Staff isn't knowledgeable (someone there must be....or just orders everything - but they don't have knowledge base that Sams does).

Thanks, Zoya! I'll keep it in mind for when I'm in that area.

I was in Raleigh for the first time last month and plan to move there in June. I was busy looking at employment opportunities, visiting relatives, and just generally soaking up the atmosphere, so I didn't have much time to sightsee. However, I stumbled onto the free Raleigh museum downtown and thought that the exhibits were well-done and extremely interesting.

Tell them to see the Giant Acorn.
Because where else can they see a giant acorn?

I want to know...what would you suggest to people, new to the area, as something they shouldn't miss?
TIA!

Hmmm....I guess that would all depend on who's asking. Are they young? Old? Single? Coupled? With or without kids? Do they like nature?
Are they coming from a different culture, a big city or small town?
What's going to be interesting to one person may be completely uninteresting to another. It also depends on what time of year they are visiting and what days of the week they are visting. So, this is a tricky question to answer.
But, that said, one can only assemble a list from which to choose:
As a Realtor, I am supposing you are already showing them beautiful neighborhoods. But, you might want to send them to the older neighborhoods, especially this time of year when they are in bloom.
I'd suggest Glenwood South on weekend nights, First Fridays for the Art Walk, Pullen Park during the day, Umstead Park for nature lovers, the Angus Barn for steak and wine lovers, The North Carolina Museum of Art (especially during special exhibits), The Greenway Trails, The Universities in general, Sporting Events at State, Duke and UNC, The Arboretum at State, Duke Gardens, Marbles Kids Museum, The IMAX, Moore Square and City Market, Artspace, Walnut Creek Amphitheater, Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, The Governor's Mansion, Oakwood, The Capitol Building, etc.
Soon, you'll be able to show them City Plaza as the work continues toward a Fall completion. I also imagine North Hills will become more and more a destination as the East side is completed.
In the end, if they are looking to move to the area, you might also want to show them things that will be part of their daily lives like shopping, schools, transportation routes, etc.

What is city plaza and where is it located? I wish I could've gotten to Glenwood South while I was there. Maybe, next time.

GREAT LIST! No matter what the age...they want to be able to go back home (up north) and feel that they saw or did something in NC that is very specific to NC! Like eating BBQ! Our mountains? Our beaches?
What is it that we in this area have that is VERY SPECIFIC to our area???
For example, you wouldn't go to Boston without seeing the Harbor or Harvard. You wouldn't go to NY without seeing Manhattan or a Broadway Play.
We gotta have something equal to that!!! Come on you newbies to the area...think...

I am an old-timer but when we have visitors we show them the shimmering oak tree wall downtown, the farmers' market, and NC State Centennial campus.
