I'm an avid cigar smoker, and am new to the area. I'm looking for someplace that has a wide variety, but does not charge out the nose (eg Tinder Box).

Anybody have any recommendations?

It's not that near downtown, but try Capital City Cigars near Strickland and Six Forks. Very reasonable prices and great guys there.

Try Pipes By George on Hillsborough Street one block from the YMCA. George has been there for years and has a great selection and great service. His website is pbgeorge.com/page2.html

I second Pipes By George. He's very nice and will help you through the selection of cigars and pipe tobacco if you'd like.

Though I haven't been in it, some people from a dinner party at the Angus Barn (http://www.angusbarn.com/cigar.htm - broken link) bought cigars there. Small walk-in, no idea of prices or quality - though I imagine it would be high end stuff. It's not downtown though, but it is in Raleigh.
