Default Warrenton, Louisburg, Franklinton, Oxford Questions

Hi NC people!

I have an interview in Warrenton soon and I'm researching the area between there and Raleigh. (I don't want to live in Henderson) I've looked at essential stats but I'd like to get a feel from people on the ground.

1. I couldn't find crime stats for Warrenton itself. Can anyone give me a feel of how safe it is? I used google street view on it and it didn't look too bad. Is it anything like Henderson?
2. Do you know anything about Franklinton, Youngsville, Louisburg and Oxford? They seemed pretty safe, but the most recent crime stats for Youngsville were REALLY high. (312 in 2006 to 872 in 2007) I wasn't sure what to make of that.
3. Are there other towns with rentals that I've overlooked, that you'd recommend?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Mackinac

Hilville is on a distinguished road
I can't help you with Warrenton stats, but I made an offer on a house in Oxford and I was really bummed when the home inspection found some things I wasn't willing to bend on. I loved the feel of Oxford and still consider it a gorgeous area, and parts of the main drag look like a postcard, to me anyways. I eventually ended up buying in Durham. Even though I can't help, I didn't want you to think your post wasn't being read. You're not by chance moving from Mackinac Island, are you? :-)

Good luck with your interview!

Okay, so I've done some more digging and Louisburg seems like a decent place. It's halfway between Warrenton and Raleigh Metro, and it appears to be the next exurb of the Triangle region after Wake Forest.

Can anyone tell me if this is accurate? I read some of the Franklin Times, and, it seemed like an okay place. Am I right or wrong?

I'd stick to Wake Forest and Youngsville. The reason crime appeared to be high for Youngsville is because it's population is so low (not even 2,000 residents) that one crime totally skews the data. But in reality crime isn't high there at all and it's very safe. Lots of new growth in Youngsville and Wake Forest and both are an easy commute to areas to the north. When you start going to Franklinton, Louisburg, Warrenton, Oxford, etc... you are really starting to get out there and there isn't as much new growth. Why do you think Franklin Regional Medical Center wants to move to a location near US-1 and Highway 96 in Youngsville? To take advantage of the new growth that is occurring (and will occur in the future) in the Youngsville/Wake Forest area and to get away from older, run-down cities with no real opportunities... Louisburg and Youngsville are both in Franklin county but Franklin county is like two separate entities now. You have Youngsville right near the border of Wake County with new growth (and projections for the future that see it growing quite a bit) and then you have other cities like Louisburg that are static and aren't projected to grow much in the future.

I live in Franklinton but on the South Granville County side. I love it here. I moved 10 miles out of Wake County last year due to redistricting of school and couldn't be happier.

Do you have school-aged children? We decided against the Franklin County side of Franklinton due to the school not being exactly what we were looking for. Our children go to Wilton Elementary in Franklinton (Granville County). I drive to Oxford often (10 miles from my house) and it is quaint as another poster mentioned. Sometimes I feel way out here but I am 12 miles from everything I enjoyed when I lived in Wake Forest but truly enjoy the peaceful lifestyle I have where I live now.

Definately you must come and drive it yourself and check out the area so that you KNOW what will truly work for you and your family.

Oh my gosh, I got some responses! Thank you so much!
I'm actually a young single guy, so school districts aren't too relevant. I just don't want my car smashed in or home broken into. The info about youngsville is reassuring. So I'll look into there too.

I'll actually be exploring the area when I come down next week, and I'll hit all the towns. Thanks a lot for the info guys.

You can explore these areas and get a bird's eye view on MSN.com and click on maps. It is so funny to think about a car being smashed into in Youngsville. My son and his wife moved there a fews years back. His wife's uncle is a real estate agent and I don't think he would have found them a home in a place that was not up and coming. Wake Forest and Youngsville are both beautiful areas. Youngsville looks better every time we visit.

Well, I just got back. I got the job in Warrenton and I'll be moving in August! Yay!! I also visited all the towns but Oxford. I liked them all, and NCN, you were right. Youngsville looked quite safe. But all the towns were nice and quaint and what I would picture in a southern town. The red brick courthouse with the white portico, the confederate monument in the town square, tree lined streets with grand Antebellum and Victorian homes. The people were nice too. I liked it all. I liked Youngsville, but the commute's longer than I'd like, so I'm deciding between Warrenton and Louisburg--leaning toward Louisburg.

The only thing I didn't like was the traffic in Raleigh. Glenwood ave and Capital Blvd. in Wake Forest were so congested! It was stressful just getting anywhere! I didn't get to see WF beyond Capital Blvd. but I hope it's better than what I saw in traffic. Yikes!

Thanks for the advice guys. See ya round!
