I purchased my house 2 years ago. It is a white house with vinyl siding and just recently I have noticed discoloration on several places in the front of the house. I was going to have the house painted until I was told you don't paint a house that has vinyl siding. It doesn't look like pollen, this looks more like some type of discoloration. These spots are mainly by the windows and down by the front door. I don't know if the sun is causing it or what is going on. Does anybody know what this may be or who I can call to take a look at this before it becomes an even bigger issue. I appreciate any advice...

Do you powerwash/hose down your house? Dirt just accumulates on your house over time, especially if you live on a busy street.

I just found these spots on my porch that I just painted white. I don't know what it is either. We just moved here and I didn't know about the pollen...I don't like it, but there's nothing I can do. I hear the pollen will come down again in September.

There are fall pollens, yes, but I believe Spring is the only time of year we get this coating of green pine pollen. In the many years I've lived here, I can't ever remember a visible coating of pollen in the fall.

haha....no. you definitely cannot paint vinyl siding that's for sure! We had a house that was white with Vinyl siding in Lochmere several years ago (1998-2002); it was closer to "Creme" or "off-white" within 3 years even with a power-wash. I designed that house and personally ordered the vinyl siding because I thought it would be lower maintinance. Instead it just looked cheap (especially in that neighborhood) and got dirty VERY easily. Also, green mildew/mold formed all around the crevaces and though you could get the midlew itself off with the powerwasher....the green stain remained. Never have and never will own a house with vinyl siding again! Consider hardy-plank. It holds up much better than wood siding, yet looks much more natural and professional han vinyl; In my experience it didn't stain as much but that could vary.
