Default Help Save the Wilmont! I don't want to move.

Please help us save the Wilmont. Wake county has deemed the building unfit for habitation. While no one can deny that the building needs to be fixed up, the residents of the building do not want to be “removed” from their homes. Please help support the residents of the building as well as save a local landmark.

Go to Save the Wilmont to sign the petition in support of this historic building. We are hoping for 1000 signatures within 30 days.

I've driven by there a few times, and not being from the area I had no idea it was "a landmark". I like the eclectic style of the tenants and the things they have on their balconies. But if you want to save it, and keep the 13 occupied apartments, the issue is with the owner, not the city. After reading the N&O article, it most likely is unfit and unsafe. The owner has a repair list from the city, knows what he has to do to make it habitable, and has had plenty of time, so the onus is on him, and only him.

Best of luck.

Yes, it is mainly the owner's fault. But it seems kind of unfair that we have to move because of his negligence. If anything it's only gotten safer from where it was when they first did inspections. If it was OK for us to live here then, it shuld be OK now.

Anyway, the point of our petition is that we would like for both the city and our landlord to work together to achieve the necessary repairs in a manner that doesn’t require our losing a home.

Thanks for the support!
