They have some subs that you can only get up north over at the deli in Plantation Square. A meatball tunnel, steak & greens sandwich, sausage & peppers, or you can create your own sub with imported Italian goodies.

I probably already posted this, but if anyone runs into a place where I can get a Chicago italian beef sandwich, please let me know! I will buy one for you as well!

Scorp - ask Frank about it at Alimentari (from my previous post - the deli). If he doesn't have it, he'll probably figure out how to make it for you. Their number is 877-9723.

Where did you end up eating, southernpixie?

Anyone from western NY and familiar with DiBella's subs (or the Wegmans equivalent)? Anything like that here? Best bread on the planet!! For subs that is...has to be a nice "dense" bread...

Try this Italian deli up in North Raleigh (off Capital Blvd) - they make their bread fresh, so it might be worth a shot....called Ferlo's Alimentari....it's up by the mall (in Plantation Square, near the credit union and post office)
don't know if it's the same, but the folks that run the place are from Rome, NY, so I'm sure they would know what you're looking for...hope that helps a bit!

Ferlo's bread was great that they used on the meatball tunnel that I had!! I wished I'd brought home a loaf to make into garlic bread!!!

Since the subject of the thread is What Food Do You Miss Most... let me tell you, I would kill for GOOD braciole.. I wonder if anyone knows if that italian place Ferlo's makes it.. they had lots of great looking stuff in their case/counter. Or does anyone know of anywhere that makes a good braciole. I used to get it at a restaurant in Worcester, MA called Dino's.. and that is one of my absolute favorites. My mom has made it in the past, but she makes the cheese/herb & bread crumb filling a little too dense on the bread crumbs. I've made it and its been good, but.. it's too much work when I'm the only one who truly appreciates it... DH wasn't thrilled with it.. his loss!

go over to Ferlo's and ask Frank, Tassy. I know the man - if it exists, he can do it, and it will be perfect. At least let him try for you.

I miss the restaurant "Friendlys." There are none down South! I went to one in Daytona Beach once because we just happened upon it.

Fribbles - yum. :-)
