Retirement communities in Cary
My daughter and young family are planning to move to Cary within months [have to sell present LI home and buy one there]. Coincidentally I have been thinking about Cary too. My wife and I will be retiring next year and would like to follow them. We are healthy for a couple in their late 60's and are thinking of spending 350-400k for a house. I like the idea of the Del Webb thing they are building and we have plenty of lead time to have them build for us. Have not been to Cary yet, but should come down from LI later in the spring. Does anyone have any input on this? If not, perhaps you"ll [see, I'm trying to adapt] could refer me to a purpose built chat-room for "active adult communities"?

Try looking at Heritage Pines (they have a website) in Cary. It is fairly new and my father and step mother are happy there. They have many activites and it seems that the owners are a nice mix of transplants (who like you moved to be close to their grown children) and locals who have downsized. It is a pretty community! Hope that helps!

I took clients to Heritage Pines and to Carolina Preserve by Del Webb. My clients bought at Carolina Preserve. They thought it had more going for it. It was larger, clubhouse was larger and they thought it would have a better activities director.
There is also a neighborhood in The Park at West Lake called The Commons which is being marketed towards empty nesters but its not a 55 active adult community. A few others like this are around.
It just depends on what you are looking for.
Hope this helps,
Vicki

This topic came up here a little while ago, and some different communities were mentioned - might be something helpful for you in there.

Heritage Links Dr.
Yesterday we were visiting open houses in the Wake Forest area. We qualify for 55+ but don't want to do that unless we absolutely must. I still like to garden and a fence would be nice, however we came across a house not in a 55+ Heritage SD that was amazingly pretty and suitable for 55+ and over that tempted us. The neighborhood was quiet and we learned that for a $70. per month HOA fee all lawn and yard maintenance is done. All the yards were well groomed and green. The home is LARGE, but just over 400K and across the street was a resale for under 400k. It was very peaceful! If you don't garden and a fence is not an issue (which most 55+ disallow) this is worth a look in IMHO.

Rundent,
I'm so impressed you're using this forum!
I hope I'm as up on technology as you are in my late 60s (not that that's old...hope you take that in the spirit in which it's intended!)

Hey our generation has gone from the Rolling Stones to disco and jazz, but to date have not accepted RAP. LOL We were hippies, yuppies, dinks, and now empty nesters. A lot of us are waxing our surf boards , applying duct tape to our jowls in lieu of a face lift and just enjoying life. No offense taken by this senior cit on the comment , just remember, we were all wild child's at one time, just look for the grateful dead stickers on our walkers.

I'd plaster the back of my scooter with Crosby,Stills, Nash and Young stickers. Now...where is my duct tape?
