One of my clients did his garage floor with epoxy about 3-4 years ago. I noticed he used "carpet squares" for the wheels of both of his cars. He was having problems with blisters and peeling from the tires being "warm".
The floor itself was immaculate. However, seeing the 8 pieces of carpets certainly diminished the effect for me.
I suspect today's product(s) are better engineered to handle that problem.
How long was your client's floor down at the time you saw the carpet squares? It might be necessary within the first week or so, depending on the coating used, the air & floor temps, as well as humidity. However, after a full chemical cure, the hot tire issue should be gone. If not, then something is wrong with either the coating material or the installation.
To be honest, I didn't ask any of those questions to my client. Again, I was, on one hand impressed how beautiful the floor looked overall, and then somewhat disappointed with the carpet squares for the tires.
I put down the "U-Coat-It" system over 5 years ago in my garage. No problems with peeling or lifting. Any mark on the floor is where I dropped something on it. As others have mentioned, preparation is the key to any coating. Believe I spent around $800 or so for a 24x22 size garage.
caspian65, would love to see photos of yours. Can you see any roller marks or areas where the different sections overlapped?
