Default 64 Corridor

Does anyone have any thoughts about this proposal from Cary to Pittsboro? What's the buzz from other HOA's or communities, which will be affected by this expressway?

Thanks for the links to give a better understanding, but has anyone given any thought as to how this will impact the neighbors down 64, and the proposed elevated exchange near US 1 & 64?

Wow, This looks like a huge thing. Can someone enlighten me as to why we need this. What happened to the southern leg of I-540? I think we need this more....

US64 has been a focus of improvement for many, many years. A lot of progress has been made to the west of Cary, with a former 2-lane road turned into a nice 4-lane divided highway, included limited access sections such as the bypass around Pittsboro; and to the east US64 is now nearly all expressway with the new US64/264 bypass around Knightdale. But that middle leg through Cary and Apex. Whew! Quite a bottleneck, with lots of cars and traffic lights.

Right.
The "Superstreet" concept was rattled around in the news at least 4 or 5 years ago, IIRC.

I also wonder, though, if the area wouldn't be better served by at least a partial installation of the southern leg of 540.

I have to agree, I feel as if the area is better served by by the southern leg of 540. This corridor, in my opinion just contributes to the further sprawl eastward.

I just recently travelled 64W going through Siler City, Ramseur, Asheboro, and through to 52 taking 52 up to Mt. Airy. The money needs to be spent at the bottleneck at these 3 cities for immediate relief with widening of 64 to four lanes after Asheboro ( drops down to 2 lanes) for long term relief to hook into 52. But still the completion of the southern leg of 540 should be the immediate focus. Is someone wanting to spend pork barrel or stimulus money?

For those that work at UNC Chapel Hill or that want to live in Pittsboro and have a significant other that works in Raleigh, this would be a good idea. One end of the connection would be at Bynum Road. Right now it would take a good 20 to 30 minutes to get to Cary from that point and a good 40 minutes to get to south Raleigh. I work at UNC and my husband works in South Raleigh. A lot of people that I work with live in Raleigh. That middle section of 15-501 where the new road is to connect is right inbetween Pittsboro and Chapel Hill and is not very convenient to any highways since 64 and I-40 are several miles from this point. Briar Chapel subdivision is on our list in the future and if they built this road it would be directly across from that subdivision and then Briar Chapel would become very easy to get to and thus would put it at the top of our list. I wonder if that subdivision has something to do with it? This is the first I've heard of the corridor. If you've ever driven out that way, that particular section near Fearrington does feel like you are forever from a major road that connects to an interstate. Driving through Chapel Hill to get to I-40 is stop and go at points. I understand why they want to build it, but I do hope they consider the impact on current housing that would be near. It would make a huge dent on my commute to Chapel Hill even currently...I now live in Apex and it takes me 40 minutes from drive way to parking lot with no traffic.
