Default Snake in the Grass!

My puppy was barking this afternoon, so thought I should go investigate. I found her in a stand off with this friendly Mole King Snake. Thought I'd share some photos, as these are common, and look a little like a copperhead, but are NOT poisonous!

Oh wow, I've never seen a mole King snake before and am glad you shared that they are non-poisonous. I'm glad to hear they are friendly as well!

My dog found a snake in our backyard today as well, but unluckily for him it was a much more aggressive Black Racer who managed to bite him 3 times before I was able to intervene and separate them. Poor guy is nursing a swollen nose tonight, but thankfully that's the worst of it.

These are two shots I was able to get before it found a small hole in the fence to escape through.

Awww...wish I could see the pics, CaryGal. Rat snakes are fairly aggressive if cornered. These Mole Kings will bite sometimes, but I've had one as a pet, and they're quite docile once they know you....if that's possible.

I took a short video. I was trying to capture the tail rattling. Most snakes do this as a warning. In dry leaves, it sounds like a rattlesnake. Nice try, but this little one isn't too scary.

Please forgive the shaking...I was trying to move a piece of wood, so I could get it to rattle it's tail. Click on image to show video.

To the posters, I am impressed with your knowledge of the various snakes referenced! To the dog that got bit : OUCH! Poor thing!

As for me. Any thing that looks like sticks and move, I am out of there! I don't care what color, shape, size, or ringed, striped, diamond markings the moving stick may have I make like the Road Rummer and its <Beep Beep> when I see a snake!

P.S. Nice pictures, thanks for sharing!

Yea that is of the Scared-A-Most family of spiders! They scare the most out of me! Never seen one like that before. Looks like a baby scorpion w/o the tail! I will be interested to see what people say it is.

I can do that too! These are not recent images...Dec, Jan & Feb. Our neighbor found two puppies under their house. We got one, and they kept the other. We think they're Aussie mixes...but hard to say for sure.

Nikki the dog, and Alice the cat (RIP):

Oops! I stupidly moved the photos after I posted them and broke the link!

Oh gosh I would have had a heart attack if I came across a snake making the rattle sound, lol...then again the Black Racer didn't do that and I still almost had one! Haha!

Those are great photos! Thanks for reposting. Looks like a good sized snake there! I used to live in an old house, and I looked in the attic one day, and saw some ginormous snake skins up there. I'd seen a rather large black snake several times, leaving and around the basement door. Apparently it was living in the house, between the attic and the basement. I never did have mice...I realized why that day!
