Cleveland Area of Johnston County?
We're moving over to Johnston County in a couple of months and are looking around for the best area to live. I keep coming across pretty good deals on real estate in the Cleveland area, and when I looked up the schools (very important) they all seemed to be highly rated. Does anyone have any feedback on this area (positive or negative) that we need to keep in mind? Thanks for your help!

The cleveland area seems like a popular area in Johnston county for some of the very reasons you mentioned. There are a few JC people on here who will probably chime in soon enough with specifics.

How are the schools? Cleveland ES, Cleveland MS, and W Johnston HS? I see that they get pretty good ratings on greatschools.net, but some of those comments are kind of old.

This is a great area to live in. However be aware that not all neighborhoods in the Cleveland area attend the same schools. You need to be specific on the neighborhood. Part of the Cleveland area has a Clayton mailing address and part has a Garner address. Drive down Cleveland road from 42 and you will see three elementary schools in close proximity (within 3 miles of each other).

My youngest went to Polenta (wasn't 100% thrilled) and is now in Clayton Middle (it has been a fantastic experience thus far!). My oldest daughter is a senior at West Johnston and we couldn't be happier with that school.

I hear that depending on where you move from Polenta is somewhere between ok and good. It is what you are use to.

We had a our daughter in a fantastic private school and now she goes to Polenta, and we have been happy. Nephew goes to Cleveland Elem and they have had some issues. I think the biggest factors there are the specific teachers and kids in the classroom. The quality of the teachers and curriculum are very similar. Living here and knowing several families with kids in each of the 3 elementary schools, I would easily recommend them all. I do believe that it is important to specify Cleveland Middle and W. Johnston High in your home search though, as there is a big difference once you get to the higher grade levels in the quality of the schools.
We love the 40/42 area. It's pretty convenient to downtown and the shopping malls, and there are big box stores within 15 minutes, but you get a lot of house for the money and a more rural setting. I love that I can get to a grocery store or pick my own strawberries all within a 5 minute drive. Also, the outlets are only 15-20 minutes away. The crime rate is low, people are friendly, and the schools are good. Good luck on your search, and welcome (in advance) to the neighborhood.
