I did post before asking about where to live, but it was at a different address. I finally got the real address, and I don't think it is very close to the other address. I thought the new job would be around Tower Blvd in Durham, but the new address is on Hopson Rd. between 55 and Davis Dr. This looks to be closer to the Durham/Wake county line, so maybe it gives us more options in Wake. I think what's going to limit us is our house price, I would like to stay under 200K, preferably under 185. We would love to have a family neighborhood with pool, great schools(middle and high), not to far from shopping, and a commute less than 30 minutes. Any ideas? Is there anyway that someone could give me what a 30 minute radius might be?

I appreciate the help, this whole process has been driving me crazy for weeks!

For that price range you may want to look in Woodcroft and Hope Valley Farms in Durham. There are also some great neighborhoods of older homes located off of Garrett Road (walking distance to Jordan High and zoned to Githens -- Trotters Ridge, Valley Brook, Bentwood). Jordan High is a good high school although not all homes in those neighborhoods are zoned for Jordan. For middle school in Durham Githens generally has a good reputation and you have many options besides your zoned MS -- there are magnets -- Rogers-Herr, Shepard, DSA and then charter school Kestrel Heights.

As far as the Durham EOG scores -- there is a lot more to them than meets the eye. I know Bull City Rising just gave a great explanation on how to look at Durham's scores in one of his recent posts but I don't have a link handy. Search for him though and I'm sure you will find it.

You are describing Scotts Mill in Apex. It would be under 30 minute drive for you. Great schools, nice community pool, very family friendly, near shopping, near movies. The community also has tennis courts and the Apex greenway runs through it. It looks like there are 3 single family homes under $200,000 there right now. You can check them out on Raleigh Durham Apex Cary Chapel Hill North Carolina Real Estate Fonville Morisey Realty Just put Scotts Mill under your search query.

I would also suggest you check the areas mentioned in SW Durham. There are lots of options under $200,000 and it is as close as you are going to get for work and shopping. The area is also very convenient to the rest of the Triangle. Woodcroft would be personally be my first choice (I love all the trees and trails).
