Clayton/Johnston County: The Staten Island of this area
sorry, but its true. if you want a more progressive area, try N. Raleigh, parts of West Raleigh, Inside the Beltline Raleigh, Cary or Chapel Hill. don't be lured by the lower prices in Johnston County, northerners, you get what you pay for.

I don't get your point. How do you know northerners don't want what Johnston County offers?
What do you mean by "Staten Island of this area" anyway?
Have you ever been to staten Island?

Staten Island is sort of known as the "blue collar, gum chewing, high hair" area of NY. Please note that I am not in agreement with this but, have heard this negative connotation of SI many times over.

What if that is what the buyer wants? I don't think they would be lured. Have you thought about the possibility that a lot of people are not progressive and don't want to be? Some people might not like progressive areas at all.

I am always a bit suspicious when some one randomly starts a new post stating a negative perception about an area when it was not in response to someone asking for an opinion about that area. I personally looked in some of those areas listed and still chose Clayton. Very happy with our choice.

Lets see...the neighbors in my immediate area in my Clayton neighborhood are from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Maryland, and South Carolina. I'm the only one from NC. We're always outside after work and on weekends talking with each other, working in our yards, letting our kids play, helping to keep an eye on them, having dinners, cookouts, etc. So northerners, if what the OP means by "you get what you pay for" is a good area with a variety of folks from different places and backgrounds that get along, then Clayton is for you. Not sure why the OP feels so negative, but in regards to Clayton, he/she could not be more wrong. I won't deny that there are parts of Johnston County that could use some lessons in tolerance, but Clayton isn't one of them.

Thank you NC_native74!!!! I currently live in Oakland, TN (the "out of the way" country suburb of Memphis) and LOVE it, but may soon be moving to the Raleigh area. I had pretty much decided that Clayton was where I wanted to start looking...but your reference about your neighbors just about sold me. I was worried I may never find a great neighborhood again!!! Could you give me any ideas on what areas in Clayton I might want to look at when I come visit? I'm looking for under $200k, in a good school district. Thanks!

All over Clayton I have met transplanted folks from what seems every part of NY but for Staten Island. Go figure.
