Default Help me with CH housing!

I'm looking for an affordable place to live in Chapel Hill, preferably within walking distance to UNC. I'm starting grad school there in the Fall. I also might have a small dog by then, so pet-friendly is preferred. I don't want to live in a creepy neighborhood. I'm really interested in the McCauley-historic area. I think Graham Court Condos look nice but I can't find a website or any info on them. Any suggestions on nice, cheap, pet-friendly, non-creepy, close to campus apartment complexes or neighborhoods? Or any suggestions on places where I should absolutely not live? thanks!

Ride around the Westwood neighborhood off S. Columbia Street, across from the hsopital. Older neighborhood with many houses with apartments, duplexes, etc where folks rent for reasonable fees and enjoy walking to all the medical sites at UNC. Quiet, friendly and reasonably price seem to make this neighborhood quite renter friendly.

Chapel Hill/Carrboro has an excellent bus system so living close enough to campus to walk isn't a necessary requirement.

When I was in grad school at UNC (93-97), I lived in Berkshire Manor apartments in Carroboro. It's an older complex but it was kept in good shape and safety was never an issue. It is conveniently located across from Carrboro Plaza, which has a laundrymat, grocery store, video store, drug store, bank, and a few places to eat, and a major bus stop, so you can easily manage without a car. It's also close enough to bike to UNC in about 10 minutes or walk in about 30 minutes. Also a short 10 minute walk to the Carrboro farmers market, Weaver St. market, etc.
