The town of Cary is currently considering postponing the down renovation project possibly indefinitley, due to budget revisions. The money has already been set aside and the project was already voted on. Starting a MAJOR project like that in this economy might be difficult, so we are advocating that the Town of Cary start SLOW with some new infrastructure instead of shelving the entire project.
If you are someone who cares about the progress of the downtown Cary Streetscape project and cultural arts center PLEASE email our mayor at Harold.weinbtrecht@townofcary.org before June 9th and tell him you want the project to move forward! ALso, consider speaking out the June 10th Budget public Hearing held at City hall at 6:30 PM.
Maybe I'm jaded, but I guess I really *thought* that with as many people who move to Cary on a daily basis, who live, work and play in Cary, that people would care about the appearance and the upkeep of it core. It's really important to those of us who live here and we thought the cityscape project was a DONE DEAL! We had no idea that once your town Council voted FOR a project, gave it the green light and set aside money for it, that it coud be taken off the table just like that! The money is already there and labor and materials are CHEAP right now! We all know that if you have th money already, investing now is the way to go.
So please, if you care at all about downtown Cary, pease send the town council an email by tomorrow!
It is funny where the cut go when we hit economic hard times. You'd think more emphasis would be made on not forgetting about things that make our community so great. Cuts on greenspace and beautification initiatives, cuts on public library staff, cuts in education and the arts etc. It just makes no sense. I'm not singling out the town of Cary. This is more of a blanket statement about the Country.
The thing that disturbs me most is the comment in this article that the old Cary Elementary is deteriorating as they delay. I don't want the town to have a more expensive project one day because Cary Elementary is so structurally unsound by the time they get around to spending the money.
