We got married in Vegas in 1970 and loved our visits there.
Unfortunately, the monopoly on gambling is over leaving some budget issues.
Years ago, crime was low. Rob a tourist, and your dry bones wound up in the desert.

Vegas would be recommended if you're looking for a good bargain on something that'll likely recover sooner in the housing market. We're due for a major correction, but we've only seen the beginning signs with some development BKs and cancellations.
NC is a nice place, but I would highly recommend renting a home for the time being and not buying. Wait for the market to go through the correction phase. Same with LV, but you can buy as soon as you find a good place without waiting too long.
Also, Nevada in general (not so much LV) is more libertarian minded than NC and income taxes here are very high. It all depends on your mindset as well.

We have been to both places several times and I have a brother who lives in LV. We love the SW, weather ect...and NC is a still a great improvement from living in the rust belt, NW PA. One thing that both areas seem to lack in is the school systems. This is really one of the BIG things holding us back. Like I stated we want out of this part of the country. We thought of NC due to it being closer to aging family ect in PA. We also thought places like Cary ect are more geared towards family then Las Vegas. Although I feel Vegas is a wonderful place, once you look outside all the glitz, it still is mainly focused on entertainment...Just looking for any sincere thoughts to get other peoples perspective. Thanks......

I lived in the desert and you can keep it. Too dry, too barren...too much like death My friends moved there 2 years ago and their property values dropped like a stone. My 2 cents worth, if it has that much value!

Without a doubt....NC. Cary in particular, although we do not live there, but it has everything most people could want. For us, this is truly the land of milk and honey. We could not imagine ever leaving NC. The cost of living is far cheaper for us, the weather is top notch (love the summers here and the winters are mild), the diverse industry is a huge plus and they build some great homes here. The east coast location is tops. We absolutely love it here.
