Anyone have a preference for one park over the other - my son and I plan to have a picnic tonight and don't know which park would be nicer.

Bond Park has a screened enclosure next to the boathouse, and if no one has it booked for a special event then it is a nice place to take refuge if the mosquitos are too bad. So I'd go for Bond Park.

Both are fine choices. Lake Crabtree has a neat boat launch area that has a "dockside" feel to it. There is also a small observation tower you can walk up to get a view. Bond park is also nice and seems to have more open grassy areas with a nice view of the lake.

Another place you might enjoy is the North Cary Park, which connects to Lake Crabtree via a walking trail on the other side of the lake. There is a nice playground and small rock climbing area for kids. There are also some nice picnic tables spread out through the wooded area that includes some nice greenway trails to walk and enjoy.
