We are not fine dining folks. With two small kids, we usually find ourselves at Elmo's or Red Robin. So where would you go? I hired a babysitter so we are ready to make a reservation.
George's Garage (Durham)
Angus Barn
Papa's Grille (Durham)
Melting Pot
Other (please recommend a nice place)
My choices are usually Angus Barn or 42nd Street Oyster Bar.
For Italian, I like Casa Carbone (Glenwood Ave.) and in the same shopping center, Peddler has a great salad bar, along with great steaks.
Hubby and I went to the new Shuckers last night. I had a lobster tail for only $14.99 and it was NOT frozen and very sweet. Decor is a bit upscale than the old Shuckers but food is still very reasonable and good.
Durham has the best restaurants in the Triangle area, so there is no need to leave there unless you want to.
Four Square Restaurant (http://www.foursquarerestaurant.com/restaurant.asp - broken link). A wonderful atmosphere, and great food.
Nana's. Another wonderful restaurant. A bit more "formal" feel than Four Square, but the food here is wonderful as well.
Many people love Magnolia Grill. It is nice, but not my personal favorite. I find it quite noisy, and perfer the previous two restaurants.
If you don't mind driving a bit, there is also Fearington House between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. It is expensive ($69-$79 price-fixed menu per person, depending on whether you get dessert), but quite romantic.
