Can anyone recommend an experienced tutor for my 10 year old son? We're looking for an affordable one in North Raleigh area. He has learning difficulties and focusing issues. We were told he has ADD/ADHD so he is really struggling in school. Instead of medicating him, we're trying out tutoring to see if that works for him.
There should be plenty of off-duty teachers that are looking for extra money out there since we don't pay teachers in NC what they are worth! I personally know one who tutors but lives in Chapel Hill.
I understand your apprehension about the medication but know 3 children who were all in the same boat. They were labeled trouble-makers, defiant and made fun of at school and often felt less intelligent than their peers. After the medication, they all three picked up their grades, became more popular among peers and teachers and liked school better overall. I'm just saying I think if they have been formally diagnosed, you should consider the medication for their benefit.
