Default Better investment-Hope Valley or Duke Forest?

I am thinking of buying a second home in Hope Valley. Although my kids are grown I would like to know...are the schools in this area good enough for re-sale value? I was also looking in Duke Forest, would this be a better investment because the proximity to Duke University?
Thank you in advance for your insights

They are both really great areas. I don't know enough about the schools to comment on them. Re-sale's in both locations usually do pretty well.

Hope Valley Country Club area is zoned for Hope Valley Elementary, Githens, & Jordan. All considered to be desirable schools.

Forest Hills is zoned for Githens & Jordan too, but elementaries are Spaulding & Lakewood, which do not get as much attention when discussing "desirable elementaries".

But many people who choose these neighborhoods send their children to private school. I love both of these neighborhoods. But I like Forest Hills better for it's setting. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

The OP mentioned Duke Forest, not Forest Hills. I think most of Duke Forest is zoned for Forest View Elementary, which I have only ever heard good things about from parents with kids there.

Speaking of Forest Hills though, doesn't some of it fall in the priority zone for the desirable Morehead Montessori Magnet elementary?

Ooops. Jill you are right!!! Sorry to the OP. I had Forest Hills on the brain this week.

I did a quick real estate search and some of the Duke Forest homes are indeed zoned for Forestview Elementary, Githens, & Jordan. While other Duke Forest homes are zoned for Lakewood, Githens & Jordan. Of the 2 elementary schools I like Forestview better.... for their great hands on environmental science program.

But again, I don't think the OP could go wrong w/ Duke Forest.

One thing to think about is that Durham Public Schools is trying to purchase 50 acres of land in Duke Forest along Erwin/Cornwallis area. Neighbors aren't real thrilled about this prospect and are fighting it. There is info online regarding this. You might consider how this would impact the homes you are looking at.

Good luck to the OP.
