Glad it was worth the drive for you! I love the banana pudding, but homemade vanilla and strawberry is my favorite with Rocky Road a very close second. They usually come out with seasonal flavors as well that are good.

Norasmom, I'm glad you like it! You're right - it is the best. It's not mere grocery store ice cream.

I went back for a second trip yesterday, and was happy to see that they had Moolenium Crunch, which is my second fave. (First favorite being Homemade Vanilla.) My husband is still waiting for Banana Split. I know they've carried it, but we seem to have missed it.

I took my mom on this trip, and we wandered around the little shops downtown. Pittsboro is a nice place to spend an afternoon.

It's definitely not! I bought Strawberries and Homemade Vanilla too but haven't tried it yet. Pittsboro looks really cute. Next time I'll have to walk around ... I was worried my ice pack would melt and then the ice cream would melt (both held up),

It's better than the real thing, isn't it? I don't like banana pudding, but the ice cream version is my favorite treat (albeit in small doses, being lactose intolerant and all).

I gotta tell you guys....this thread is killing me! I'm so very close to making the drive to Pittsboro...The only reason I'm not is that I will get my fix of Blue Bell the first week of September when I'm in Texas! Homemade Vanilla!

It's got high fructose corn syrup :-/

And some artificial flavors, which is a disappointment.

I normally try to stay away from HFCS, but in this case, it's what, fifth on the list of ingredients? I can deal with that for a little ice cream. I don't eat a lot at one time, anyway.

The birthday cake flavor has a lot more artificial ingredients because of all the additions to the ice cream (cake, sprinkles, icing, etc.) Here's a comparison of the ingredients of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, vs Breyers and Edy's:

Blue Bell

Breyers

Edy's (http://www.dreyers.com/brand/grand/flavor.asp?b=134&f=1631 - broken link)
