Check out Get Dressed on West Street in Raleigh just off of Peace Street. I was there last night, pleasant surprise! They take clothes on consignment and have a good selection of kids clothes that won't overwhelm you. They also have a play area for the kids! Very cool store in a large warehouse.

Most every school system has a thrift store and your purchases will benefit your child's future school. Just call the school nearest you or the county school system. We are very fortunate financially but I've always bought kids clothes-escept shoes- from consignment stores. It doesn't make sense to buy new clothes which they outgrow so quickly.
Also look to see if there is a Twins or Multiples Club. They usually have great big consignment sales twice a year and many of the proceeds go to local charities. You can sell there too even if you aren't a member and the more hours you donante, the higher percentage you get to keep.

I agree with Once Upon a Child. It's a franchise, and we had one up north. They have very strict requirements on conditions of the items they take in. And the prices were excellent. Most of my sons clothes that we purchased from 1 year to 5 years were from there.

There is a new thrift shop in between Lowes Foods and Jersy Mike's. I got 4 girls dresses for $9. I'll be back!

They have been open for 6 weeks. Here is their website:
