My lady and i are strongly considering moving to the Raleigh-Durham area. She's white (from western NC) and i am black (military brat from Md.). we are educators (public school teacher and administrator). we plan to get married and would like to settle in NC and make it our home. I am so pleased to read all of the positive comments about interracial couples, and having visited NC a few times, I have experienced good vibes also. I am concerned about how the professional communities feel about interracial couples. As one person commented, it seems to be more prevalent among the working class vs the middle class. Looking forward to hearing from someone from the Raleigh-Durham area. Actually, we were considering the Cary or Garner area for a home. Any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks. WC

The big problem for you isn't racial, it's economic.

Very little teacher hiring planned for Wake or Durham counties this year.

Default budget crisis resulting in teacher layoffs

In the past, the triangle area has always had quite a demand for teachers. Unfortunately this year many of the districts had to layoff 15% of the staff. It may be very difficult to find a job.
