I heard they are renaming the place, new management and reopening, but who knows. It was one of their former staff who told me this.

That's the second restaurants to close in WF area. The Ole Chicago seems to be closed also in the Walmart Plaza. What is happening to our WF restaurants?

It’s survival of the fittest. I saw something similar happen in the DC area after the first George Bush administration. Ultimately the community and the consumer were better served by the quality food establishments that remained. If a restaurant isn’t offering a compelling reason for you to go there and spend your hard earned cash then there’s little reason for it to continue to operate.

What bothers me is that we keep seeing more commercial real-estate developed in Wake Forest even though businesses are closing. Maybe its time for cooler heads to prevail and to put a moratorium on building for a while. At least until the worst of this recession is over in about ten years or so.

Old Chicago deserved to close. They had the worse service - and I really can't comment on the food. Two separate occasions we left before we could finally order dinner because of horrible service. (and they weren't even busy) Both times, we ordered an appetizer and asked the waiter to give us a couple of minutes to decide on dinner. Ordered a beer (one of their "hundreds") which they were, of course, out of even though it was a featured beer. Our water and appetizer came after 20 minutes, no waiter to take food order. We asked other wait staff, and they "would get him". Still nothing. We ate the appetizer and asked for the manager. The solution? He gave us the bill for the appetizer and said he was sorry. Twice convinced us that this was something systemic and not just an isolated thing. We paid for the appetizer (which any good manager would have given at least a discount on), left, and never went back.

Rarely will you hear me complain about a place, but they were definitely not good at customer service.

G&G's was at least good at that. I never had a problem there even though the food quality had begun to slip a bit. I'll miss them.
