There is an old world Italian deli in Plantation Square. Not sit-down, but they make the absolute best sauce, and chicken parm you'll ever have.

I too love Nina's. And its busy most evenings. So check it out and see where the competition stands.

Another one that I liked on my last visit was "Vivace" in North Hills. It's modern Italian cuisine with a taste of old. Its a lot more upscale. And the service was exceptional.

Default Coming from central/northern NJ

I have lived in central/northern NJ all my life so I know what "real" Italian food is like, and I can honestly say, if he makes good "real" NY style pizza, come on down. The pizza in the Raleigh (or anywhere south of Philly really) is crap. And everyone I know that relocated from the North to somewhere in the NC area says the same thing. There are a lot of Northerns that go to Duke and UNC and other schools in the area not to mention the number that live in the Raleigh area. I actually had a thought to buy the pizza recipe from the Italian place across the street from us in NJ that my family has been eating at for 30+ years and open a place in Chapel Hill. I think it would make a killing there. Buy I don't have the cash for that. So if you open it send me the address!

Default Best Italian food

Hello All,
I am from NY and have eaten at some of the best of the city and of the Bronx. My friend introduced me to a place called Cinellis, near the corner of Capital and Falls of Neuse. The food and pizza are top notch. I'm told the brothers who own it are from NY and they have two or three of these restaurants in the Triangle area.
Good eating.
John

Oh my gosh, don't get me started on how much I miss good Italian food. We live in Clayton and there is none...NONE! There is supposed to be a good italian place opening up on Main St/Clayton and if it pans out....that is ONE place around here to get decent Italian.

Now, the nearest Italian that people actually recommend around here has the worst sauce (you know...that over peppered sauce that is a sure sign of not knowing how to make sauce). I miss Northern NJ italian food like crazy.

No need for referrals to be pm'd to local Raleigh Italian places, we don't travel to Raleigh all that much.

Anyhow, if you're looking for a market, this place has NO decent Italian food.
Lauren
